“ Japandi ” Interior Design Style Continues its Popularity in 2025

“Japandi” Interior Design Style Continues its Popularity in 2025.

As we are getting close to the end of 2024, I am looking into next year’s interior decorating trends which are all about blending styles, functionality, and incorporating sustainability.

While browsing different websites for new interior design trends, I stumble on Japandi style continuing its popularity in 2025. And as I was reviewing the other trends, I realized that Japandi includes most of them. The “Minimalist with a cozy twist,” combines Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian coziness and focuses on natural materials, neutral color palettes, and cozy elements like soft textiles and warm lighting.

Below I look at the 2025 interior decorating trends that are reflected in the Japandi style.

Textured walls and ceilings – textured surfaces, wallpapered ceilings, wood paneling, and decorative plaster finishes which add depth and interest to rooms are an integral part of the Japandi style.

Wellness spaces – as we experience a growing emphasis on health and well-being, they have been a fundamental part of the Japandi for centuries. Spas like bathrooms, saunas, yoga studios, or meditation space, incorporate natural light, indoor plants, and calming color palettes.

Nature-inspired designs – bringing the outdoors in with living walls, plants, trees, as well as natural wood and stone materials, and large windows that invite sunlight and scenic views, are all elements of Japandi style.

Integrated outdoor living: blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces and designing outdoors to be as comfortable and stylish as indoors, continues to gain momentum, but it has been a part of Japandi style for a very long time.

Sustainable materials – Japandi is all about environmental consciousness which is driving the use of sustainable, locally sourced woods, stone, recycled materials, and eco-friendly textiles.

Multifunctional furniture – with urban living spaces shrinking, and the Japandi style multifunctional furniture like sofa beds, futons, expandable tables, and storage-integrated seating, are becoming more popular, to maximize functionality without sacrificing the style.

Artisanal and handcrafted elements – Japandi offers fabulous varieties of unique pieces of artisanal and handcrafted items, such as bespoke furniture, handmade decorations, and artisanal textiles which add warmth and character to spaces.

Bold colors and patterns – vibrant colors and eye-catching patterns will be making a statement in 2025 embracing boldness and creativity in interior design. Even though bold colors are not the main focus of the Japandi style, we can certainly find and use bold colors and textures is the artwork, decorations, and textiles like throws and pillows.
